USDA United States Department of Agriculture OUTDOOR RECREATION UPDATE National forests & grasslands in New Mexico WHAT IS CLOSED? Developed recreation sites are closed. Sites include campgrounds, day-use areas, picnic areas, & other amenities, such as potable water stations, fire rings/grills, picnic tables, restrooms with flush or vaulted toilets, & trashcans/trash collection services. WHAT IS OPEN? Parking facilities, trails & trailheads remain open. Dispersed camping outside developed campgrounds, hiking and river activities are still allowed in compliance with public health orders and social distancing. DISPERSED CAMPING, FIRE RESTRICTIONS 6 ft. HIKING AND RIVER ACTIVITY TIPS The following are prohibited: Igniting, building, maintaining, attending or using a fire in all areas. Using charcoal grills, barbecues, coal & wood- burning / sheepherder's stoves, or any open flame. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, trailer or Stay safe, stay close to home. Stay at least 6 feet apart from others. Avoid crowding in parking lots, trails, scenic overlooks & other areas. Follow CDC precautions. Pack out your trash & human waste. KNOW BEFORE YoU GO building. Possessing, discharging or using any kind of firework or pyrotechnic device. Call or check the website of the local office that oversees the area you plan to visit before heading outside.
