To the Taos Community, As many in this community know, we experienced an in-bounds avalanche two weeks ago that took the lives of two skiers. This is a rare and devastating accident and our hearts go out to their families, friends, and loved ones. We mourn the loss of both young men, Corey Borg-Massanari and Matthew Zonghetti Amidst our grief, we are confronted with the hard truth that there are inherent risks that come along with the sport of skiing and snowboarding that we all love so much.Accidents like this are very rare. But when they do occur, we are deeply affected by the power of the mountains. Our Ski Patrol is world class and we witnessed their heroic efforts as they responded to the accident. This is a very special group of highly-trained professionals who care about our mountain and everyone who chooses to be on it. In addition to the work performed by our staff, there were doctors, fellow skiers. rescue volunteers, Carson National Forest staff, and the greater Taos community that came together in an extraordinary effort to rescue and care for the skiers. This has been an extremely challenging and emotional period for us all In addition to our deepest sympathy for the families and friends of Corey and Matthew, we are also cognizant of the well- being of every staff and community member. We continue to offer counseling assistance programs for those in need to support the emotional health of any of our staff or community member affected by this event. Taos has one of the strongest spirits in the world. Iam confident that this sense of community and our strong relationships will provide us with the strength needed to lead to a healthy recovery.
