TAOS ARTIST PEGGY MCGIVERN hen Walmost four decades ago, I fell in love with the high plains mesa above the Rio Grande Gorge; as a painter, the colors of Northern New Mexico captured my heart. The women in this town are enthusiastic and energetic, bringing excitement to the community, from putting on art shows to teaching to volunteering. It wasn't until I moved here that I realized just how much women support each other and the town itself. Marcia Oliver, part of the Taos Moderns movement, is one such woman; we met by chance, and she took me under wing The Taos Plein Air Painters have also been a catalyst for comradery, bringing new artists and long time Taos professionals together. Today Taoseño women continue to be a catalyst for change-not only in their art, but in every aspect of making Taos the place it is today.
