About

David Douglas has been taking photographs since 1967 when he “stole” his father’s Nikon. With it, he circumnavigated the world on a floating university while in college. He later served two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ethiopia during a very turbulent time in its history, camera in hand. Since moving to New Mexico in 1988, David has dedicated himself to capturing its unmatched beauty. David studied black and white photography at the International Center of Photography in New York City where he lived for twelve years and more recently, the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. Published in New Mexico Magazine, his photographs have been displayed at the Tularosa Basin Gallery of Photography in Carrizozo, New Mexico. David has exhibited in the 2017 - 2021 Annual New Mexico Photographic Art Show (ANMPAS) in Albuquerque where he won a Judge’s Choice award in 2020. He won third place in an international photography competition sponsored by the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and honorable mention in the “Monochrome Awards” another international competition. For the last three years, he displayed photographs at the Taos Fall Arts Festival. The Ashton Gallery in San Diego, California and the Western Gallery in Dallas, Texas also represented his work. David’s photographs are also in private collections in New Mexico, California, New York, Texas, Washington, DC, Virginia, and The Netherlands. David has a passion for telling the story of New Mexico in captivating black and white photography. His emotional, dramatic photographs evoke a thought-provoking, soulful response. His work reimagines the stunning beauty of the southwest, revealing the essence of its subjects and its viewers. He constantly explores beautiful landscapes, villages and towns, art, culture, history and people through heart and lens. The totality of his photography sums up in two words: “Shuttering Experiences”. If any of David's photographs move you as they do him, perhaps you'll contact him and add one or two to your collection. As always, your comments are welcome.
