Questa, New Mexico is widely recognized for its bountiful fishing. The popular Questa Annual Fishing Derby returns this year on Saturday, June 26 from 8am to noon at Questa’s Eagle Rock Lake. Three age categories will be competing for $1,000 in cash prizes, and there will be giveaways, food vendors, and Derby t-shirts to purchase.
Registration begins at 7:00 am on site at the lake; each angler pays a $20 cash fee to participate. Three age categories give young and old a chance to win a cash prize for the longest fish in their age group: kids 11 and under; youth 12 to 17; and adults 18 and older. Fishing licenses are required for contestants 12 and older; they can be purchased online at https://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/fishing/licenses-permits/requirements-fees/; anglers bring their own fishing gear, bait of choice, hat, sunscreen, and water.
