Contemporary Southwest Landscape Painter
"My primary focus when painting is the energy of the land, not the actual depiction of what I see. I try to reflect my feelings for the landscape through the colors I use and through my brush stroke; most often I use strong, intense colors that reflect the high contrast of the late afternoon or early morning light. I use loose, strong brush strokes, laying color over color to create depth and texture. I most often work using a spatula to apply my thick paint. I primarily use oils and work on both archival birch panels and canvas.”
Peggy Trigg's love for the land springs from being raised in the country near Santa Fe and working on her family’s cattle ranch. As well as developing her personal art, Peggy Trigg also taught art at the adult and high school levels focusing on composition and exploring art techniques. She is currently living and painting in the Taos area of Northern New Mexico. Her southwest landscape paintings can be seen at numerous locations including La Mesa Gallery on Canyon Road in Santa Fe and Wilder Nightingale Fine Arts in Taos.
